Layer + Check: Seamlessly Connecting Accounting and Payroll for SMB Platforms

The Check and Layer wordmarks, joined by a plus

Today, we’re excited to announce a new partnership and integration with Check. Through this partnership, platforms using Check embedded payroll can automatically sync payroll data into their embedded accounting and bookkeeping powered by Layer.

Why it matters

For businesses with employees, recording payroll activity can be one of the most challenging aspects of accounting. Payroll is often one of the largest recurring expenses for a business each month. Connecting payroll and accounting directly gives businesses real-time, granular visibility into labor costs alongside the rest of their business finances. Rather than juggling data exports and manual workflows, employers can rest assured knowing their payroll accounting is always up-to-date, categorized, and reconciled.

How it works

With this integration, every payroll run initiated by an employer using Check is automatically synced to Layer. All necessary payroll details—like wages, contractor payments, benefits, and taxes—flow seamlessly into Layer’s embedded accounting software and can immediately be viewed in accounting reports such as the profit & loss statement. Payroll runs are also automatically matched with the corresponding activity in the employer’s bank accounts connected to Layer.

We’re thrilled to partner with Layer to offer a seamlessly integrated payroll and accounting experience. Payroll data is key to understanding business finances and proper accounting. Check partners can now provide their customers with best-in-class embedded accounting that deeply understands their payroll data.
